19 Things To Do When Your Return From A Trip

19 Things To Do When Your Return From A Trip

1. Cancel your international cell phone traveling package.

2. Check to make sure your hotel loyalty points and air miles were all accounted for. Keep boarding passes and hotel receipts until you are sure that they have been properly added.

3. Check your credit card receipts carefully. Contact your bank regarding any issues immediately.

4. Check your health. If you are not feeling well, visit your doctor and mention the countries that you travelled to during your trip.

5. Go to Trip Advisor or Lonely Planet’s Thorn Tree or other travel sites and share the good and the bad. Help other travelers stay away from that dirty restaurant or enjoy that gem of a B&B nestled next to a stream in the foothills of a mountain.

6. If you needed to use your insurance put the claim in right away. Time limits may apply. Keep all necessary documents in a folder until the claim is satisfied.

7. Let key people, especially your trusted person back home with copies of all your documents, know that you are home safe and sound.

8. Make sure you get your rest, stay hydrated, and eat well. After a trip, it is common to get sick, especially after flying in a crowded airplane.

9. Remember that little orphan girl begging? Or, recall that homeless man sleeping on the dusty streets of a little village? Find an organization that will help in the area that you travelled. Take action!

10. Scan through your email for any important emails and deal with those as soon as possible. The rest can wait.

11. Share your experiences with friends, family, and others. Start your own blog or website. Or post photos to the social media website of your choice.

12. Sort through your photos. Label and title them. You will not remember names and sites forever.

13. Turn off your email auto responder, if you set one up prior to leaving.

14. Keep in touch with those you have met. Drop those that you have connected with while on your trip and exchanged emails a short note. Having friends around the world is never a bad thing.

15. Unpack and wash your clothes right away. Get right back into “home mode.” Unpack the toiletry bag as well. Air out your luggage and toiletry case, it may need it.

16. Be prepared for reverse culture shock.

17. Be prepared for the change in you. Traveling can change your worldview and perspective.

18. Look for travel opportunities in your own community. You will be amazed at what there is to see at home. And it will help to ease the transition to your normal routine.

19. You are inspired to travel. Plan your next trip. Perhaps another traveller mentioned a destination that sounded appealing. Maybe one of your destinations deserved a longer stay. Start the process and fend off the post-vacation blues.
