11 Money Tips for Traveling
Know your monetary conversions before you go.
Banks tend to give you the best exchange rate. If you can get money there, do so. Airport exchanges and those around tourist attractions will have poorer exchange rates. OK, they have really bad exchange rates.
Use ATMs at airports instead of currency exchange booths.
Phone your bank or credit card provider to make sure that your card will work at your destination.
Phone your bank or credit card provider to let them know where you will be traveling and when. Otherwise, they may suspend your credit card as a security measure when they see it being used in another country.
Carry local cash, as not every business will accept credit cards.
Have two different types of credit cards on hand. Some businesses may only take one type or brand of card.
Some countries have entrance and/or exit fees, which are not covered in your ticket. Check the country’s entrance and exit fees and ensure you have enough money (cash in some cases) available to pay.
Some tickets (trains, museums, you name it) can be purchased in advance, saving you time in lineups and potentially saving you money.
Consider joining CAA or AAA or another travel club.
Emergency money can be rolled up in a lip balm case.
