Hidden Figures (2016): "The story of a team of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program." source
The real stars of the movie were Katherine, Mary, and Dorothy. These three African-American women fought against the stereotypes and racism of the 1960s by calculating orbital mechanics, programming IBMs using Fortran, and pushing the boundaries in education
Leader
Al Harrison, based loosely on real life Robert Gilruth, was the head of the Space Task Group at Langley Research Center.
"Here at NASA, everyone pees the same color"
After Ms. Johnson lets him know about the washroom situation:
"There are no colored bathrooms in this building, or any building outside the West Campus, which is half a mile away. Did you know that? I have to walk to Timbuktu just to relieve myself! And I can't use one of the handy bikes."
Mr. Harrison removes the signs for "colored" washrooms.
Quite possibly one of my favorite lines ever and a great example of visionary and transformational leadership.
"We get to the peak together, or we don't get there at all."
A great example of democratic leadership!
