On a wintery, windy day we descended upon Virpazar, a village of 300+ and tourist center to the largest bird habitat in the region.
Just after we parked at the town square, a gentleman approached us and guided us to this restaurant (obviously his family business but also the only one open this time of year). He helped to arrange a boat tour, which was the main reason we came to Virpazar.
Petar II Petrović Njegoš built Fort Lesendro to protect the region's trade and fishing. Someone had to protect the area and its inhabitants from those Turks!
The Turks did take it over in 1843 and then left it 35 years later.
