It’s so hard for me to believe that Mom is going to be in two weeks. It’s been so great having her here with us. Seeing her with Kirsi and their relationship blossoming have been fantastic. I love watching them giggle together and sharing those special Gramma-Kirsi moments. And, of course, we appreciate all the work and help she gives us with the kids and around the house. It’s going to be so strange not to have her here.
We’ve had a busy week. On Tuesday, we had to go back to get Aidan’s Chilean passport picture retaken. Why? Because his eyes were closed. Well, duh!! Didn’t they see that when they took the picture the first time?! I mean, they take the picture right there when you apply for the passport! So, we headed back in to get it redone. Thankfully they let us right in (in front of 20 other people) because it was their mistake. Then I figured we may as well get his pictures done for his Canadian passport. After an hour of trying to get it to work, we stopped. They didn’t have the proper lighting to have him lay down on the floor on a white sheet (too many shadows) so we had to try to get it taken with him sitting up. Try doing that with a baby who can’t hold his head up. Hard enough as it is but then add in all the requirements for the Canadian government – the baby’s eyes have to be open, his head has to be centred and looking directly at the camera, no shadows and the parent’s hands cannot be showing in the picture. Aaargh! We tried taking some in his carseat but who knows if they’ll be acceptable? If not, we’re going to wait until October when Der has a day off and we’ll take Aidan’s Bumbo seat in to get them done.
Today, we headed to the Tiki Huts in Vitacura. Mom hadn’t been there before so I thought it would be good for her to have a look around. There are lots of little shops there – souvenir and handicraft – that are of interest to everyone, not just us gringos. We had to get going by noon but the shops only opened at 11:00. We’ll just have to head back another time so Mom can see the rest of it.
Here are some recent pics of our crew. This is me with the kiddos, taken yesterday:
