Rural Rajasthan – Subsistence Farming & Monkeys

Updated: Nov 10, 2020

Perhaps, the most fascinating aspect of the drive from Udaipur to Kumbhalgarh Fort is the dramatic transition from modern city to a rural, subsistence farming lifestyle; small fields, hand tools, plowing with oxen, and water from wells.

The region is gorgeous and the women’s clothing may be the most beautiful in the world but the faces depict and reflect a hard life.

The men are often adorned with silver earrings, mustaches, and jet black hair. The women slip bracelets on their wrists and pierce their noses with large noserings.

The following pictures are taken from inside an air-conditioned vehicle zipping by fields and through small villages. The camera and our cell phones most likely cost more than their yearly income.
