We took an overnight Volvo bus (14 hours) from Delhi to Manali, which is really the only way there unless you want to fly and then still bus 8 hours. Overall, though, the trip wasn’t bad as we left at 6:30 in the evening and arrived the next morning.
They started out by handing out barf bags for the winding road up into the Kullu Valley, also known as Valley of the Gods. The valley is in the Pir Panjal Range, a part of the inner Himalaya region.
Our hotel was great and had great views of the mountains and the valley. We spent a relaxing day in Old Manali wondering around and hanging out at Johnson’s Cafe, which was to be our restaurant of choice for the week.
The highlight was Hidimba Devi Temple.
Hidimbi Devi Temple, also known variously as the Hadimba Temple, is located in Manāli, a hill station in the State of Himāchal Pradesh in north India. It is an ancient cave temple dedicated to Hidimbi Devi, wife of Bhima, a figure in the Indian epic Mahābhārata. The temple is surrounded by a cedar forest at the foot of the Himālayas. The sanctuary is built over a huge rock jutting out of the ground which was worshiped as an image of the deity. The structure was built in 1553. “https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidimba_Devi_Temple”
