Today is a national holiday in Chile (Assumption of Mary) making this a long weekend. We had big plans for Mom’s last weekend here – we were going to go to the zoo in Buin, visit Cerro Santa Lucia and the Japanese Gardens there and go to Cerro San Cristobal and see the view of the city. Well, none of that is happening, at least not today. It started out at a balmy 13C and the temperature is dropping steadily as the day goes on. It was raining this morning but now, it’s pouring. The drain in the street actually can’t keep up so we’ve got a little flood going on in the street in front of our house. We’ll see what tomorrow brings but it’s not looking promising.
Happy Birthday to my brother Bruce. He’s 27 years old today. 🙂 And Happy Birthday to Deanna, his girlfriend, tomorrow!
We’ve had a good week this week. With kiddo news, Kirsi is doing awesome in her potty training! She hasn’t had an accident in a long time and only wears a “fiper” (her way of saying diaper) at nap and bedtime, and even then, she doesn’t want to. She tells us when she has to go and if we’re out and about, we make a mad dash to the nearest bathroom. 🙂 Aidan has started cooing this week and it’s soooo sweet! I love it!
I found a new student to tutor this year. Asahi is a middle school boy from Japan and I will be working with him in English. I’ll also be working with one girl that I worked with last year.
The bad news of the week is that we found out that we’ll be losing our nanny, Cecy. She’s going to go back to working with the family she was with before she came to us, but full time. It’s great news for her because right now she works for us and another family during the day and then she has a night job cleaning a school. It’s just really bad timing for me since I start working next week (tutoring) and Mom goes back next week too. I would have liked to start looking for someone while Mom was still here but it didn’t happen that way. I have a few possibilities so hopefully one of them will work out well. Our main concern is that Kirsi likes the new nana and feels comfortable with her.
Yesterday, I took my friend, Monica, out for a manicure and pedicure as a thank you for putting on a baby shower for me. It was the perfect way to end a busy week. I hadn’t had a pedicure since we left Sri Lanka so it felt great!! What a great pampering experience!
