Birthday Party Prep

Kirsi’s birthday is less than two weeks away so that means that I’m in birthday party mode! We’re doing two parties this year. One is a playgroup party – a normal playgroup where dinner is potluck but we’ll have a birthday cake at the end in celebration. That one will be on April 1st and will include all her playgroup friends. Then on April 4th, we’ll have another party. We’ve invited 5 friends who don’t come to playgroup and that’s where we’ll have decorations and party favours. I decided that it’s just way too much work for me to do one big party – I don’t get to enjoy it at all. So this way, it’ll be much easier and low-key. At least I’m hoping it will be!

Today we went to the party store to try and find decorations and treats for the goodie bags. Kirsi has chosen to have a Charlotte’s Web party so I’ve been trying to come up with some fun ideas. Her cake will be a piggy cake and it’s super easy – the easiest one I’ve done by far. So we’ll have two piggy cakes this year. I couldn’t find any spiders or spider webs – wrong time of year – but I did find some blue ribbons for the kids, just like Wilbur got at the fair. I found some small plastic farm animals which will go in the gift bags. I think I’ll get small things of Play Doh for everyone so they can make animals out of it. As for decorations, I’m going to see if I can find some big, big paper so we can make barnyard animals and put them up around the house. We’ll see.

We also went to Los Dominicos today. Kristin, you’ll be happy to know that I found some more scarves at the place where you told me. Let me know if you need more. I am getting ready for winter and getting a few scarves in my stash since they’re really pretty and really cheap here. A few new shops opened up at Los Dominicos so it was fun to see what they had. Los Dominicos is a handicraft market not far from our place. They have all kinds of stuff there so it’s nice to go and visit and especially take visitors to. Kirsi was happy to watch the birds there and to throw leaves in the little river and watch them float down.

I have been on a scrapbooking mission lately. My goal is to finish Kirsi’s first year album by the time we leave for Canada at the end of June. I know, I know, I’m super far behind. But the progress I’ve made in the past three weeks is awesome. We took a billion pictures of Kirsi when she was a baby so I have tons to scrapbook. I really want to get it all done so that I can start Aidan’s book when we get back. Plus, I want to get back into mosaics again. I finished Kirsi’s angel but need to get it framed. I’ll have to do that this week so it’ll be ready in time for her birthday. Then I want to start one for Aidan – I’m thinking of doing a little monkey since that’s my nickname for him.
