On the banks of the sacred and oxygen-less Yamuna river sits India's 24th largest city and home to the Taj Mahal. Over 1.5 million people live in the city which would make it the 4th largest city in Canada.
The marble mausoleum to Mumtaz Mahal was completed in 1648. Her tomb sits beneath a 35m high dome. The tomb itself is 73m high. Shah Jahan had it built for his wife both for love and a show of power.
While this Mughal marvel is symmetrical the minarets tilt slightly away so they would collapse away from the tomb. They stand over 39m tall.
Below is a photo gallery of the Taj Mahal, the complex, and the city. (2017).
